Many of these are capable of ruining the beauty of the carpet and may contribute to excessive fuzzing & matting and will contribute to poor appearance of your carpet. Remember, regular scheduled maintenance from a professional upholstery cleaning company, this will add many years to your investment.
You want to immediately clean up the spill with a (White) absorbent towel, do not rub or scrub the spill with a brush this will destroy the fibers in your carpet. Remember the longer you leave whatever spilled in the carpet its more likely to be permanently stained.
If it's solids like food, cake etc, you'll want to scrape up as much solids with a blunt object like a spoon, or a plastic putty knife. Remember always work from the outer edge of the stain towards the center to avoid spreading.
Do not use cloudy detergents as they can leave a sticky residue in the carpet. Stains can come back if you use soap in the carpet. Soap can also leave the spot tacky and over time, with constant traffic the original stain can grow from your spot cleaning, so be very careful as to want kind of cleaners you use. We suggest you use a mild vinegar and water solution. Use 1/3 of vinegar to 2/3 water. Don't over wet your carpet; this can cause permanent damage. After cleaning the carpets, rinse with clear water. Gently blot until you get the majority of vinegar & water solution out of carpet. Always use a white cloth or paper towel for cleanup.
